Ferries to Folegandros

Folegandros is a small island of the Cyclades group, close to Santorini and Ios. Although until recently it was undiscovered by the masses of tourists, lately it has gained a substantial share of visits, especially by people who are interested in spending their vacations in a place with minimum distance between the town and the beaches. Nevertheless, the inhabitants preserved the traditional nature of Folegandros, so we recommend you to spend at least three days at this unique destination.

You may travel from Piraeus to Folegandros thanks to the daily scheduled itineraries of Sea Jets and Zante Ferries. Sea Jets catamarans need three hours and forty five minutes to reach Karavostasi, the port of the island. Ferry tickets start from 56,80 euros. In case this amount exceeds your budget, you may select to travel with “Adamantios Korais”, the ferry boat of Zante Ferries (estimated travel time seven hours, ferry tickets start from 36 euros).

Folegandros can be your exclusive vacations destination, or it may be combined with Santorini, Ios, Sifnos, Milos, Amorgos, Naxos, Mykonos and many more.

Karavostasi port/village has many restaurants, cafes, hotels. Nevertheless, the top place to stay is at the capital of Folegandros, the “Chora”. Chora is a medieval town built on the highest spot of the island, which was a typical way for the locals during the Middle Age to protect them from the piracy threat. A castle used to surround the village. Unfortunately, not much of the castle remains but the medieval main city (named “Kastro”) and the well preserved paths crafted exclusively with stone constitute a testimony of the island’s tradition. We recommend you to enjoy a cup of coffee at Chora, and admire the small whitewashed houses with blue windows and doors, matching the color of the sea. Climb up to the church of “Panagia” (Virgin Mary) to appreciate the breathtaking view from this point which is the highest of Folegandros. Spend the rest of your day strolling along the stone carved paths with final destination one of the beautiful beaches of the island.

Karavostasi and Angali are the most easily accessible beaches. Select one out of the following beaches and go there on foot or by boat: Vardia Beach, Latinaki, Vitzenzou, Pountaki, Livadi, and Agios Nikolaos. Don’t forget to take with you water, hat and sun cream. Enjoy the crystal waters of Folegandros, swim, dive into them or stare at the sea while sunbathing (you may seek info about diving from dive centers located at Chora)

Folegandros is not the place to be if you are looking for wild nightlife. The hotel accommodation is plenty and suitable for all kinds of budget and style: Traditional rooms to let with basic facilities, villas in Cycladic minimal style, luxurious resorts are waiting to offer you an unforgettable experience.
