Ferries to Amorgos
Amorgos is the island of peacefulness and immense blue horizons. It became famous from the French movie “The Big Blue”. Since then, many visitors have selected this rather remote island of the Cyclades complex for diving, swimming and enjoying the sun. Nevertheless, Amorgos preserves a sense of tranquility and remains a destination off the beaten path.
Amorgos is connected primarily with Piraeus but also with Naxos, Koufonisi, Astypalea, Santorini, Folegandros, Paros, Milos, Sifnos and many more Cyclades islands through every day scheduled itineraries. Blue Star Ferries and Sea Jets are the main companies operating on these destinations. You may travel to Amorgos either with economy ferry tickets by selecting a ferry boat of Blue Star or by choosing a catamaran of Sea Jets. Thus you will benefit time-wise. Amorgos has two ports: Katapola and Egiali.
Amorgos is gifted with scenic mountain peaks. Nature lovers will experience long walks with awe inspiring view to the Aegean Sea. An extended sandy beach lies between Ornos (fishing village) and Egiali port, but you may also go for swimming at "Levroso", "Psili Ammos" and "Hohlakas" which are accessible by boat or bus (distance 15 minutes from Egiali).
Don’t skip a visit to the Byzantine monastery of Virgin Many “Chozoviotissa”, on the other side of Amorgos. Below the monastery lies “Agia Anna”, a famous beach for its crystal clear waters in blue and turquoise colors. Further down south the beach of “Mourou” with its dark colored sand and the two caves where you may also swim is a highly recommended choice.
Chora, the capital of the island, is built on the mountain’s cliff. Amorgos is not the place to be if you wish to party every night. Despite that, you will surely enjoy a few drinks at the bars and especially the local “psimeni raki”, which is perfectly combined in restaurants with “tapas” made mostly of fresh fish.
Last but not least a piece of advice: Greeks are usually pleased to say that the Mediterranean climate has blessed them with the exhilarating phenomenon of winds blowing away the summer heat. Nevertheless, to prevent any bad experience you will have to organize your visits to the beaches according to the wind direction (you may consult the locals about that) and certainly check before travelling, that your ferry boat departs on time. The euroferries.com team will be happy to help in case of any doubts with regard to your ferry tickets.
